History

  • 1066 Norman invasion. Site used to build a Norman motte and bailey castle
  • 1415 Battle of Agincourt, where Sir William ap Thomas impresses Henry V with his valour and loyalty, gaining him favour and the title and lads at Raglan
  • 1435 Thomas begins building work on the castle, more as a luxurious stately home than as a stronghold or defensive military castle
  • 1646 Raglan Castle finally falls to Fairfax following a siege of several weeks
